Bowling Green, KY — The rise of electronic waste, or e-waste, is a growing challenge in our tech-driven world. Dispo.tech LLC, based in Bowling Green, Kentucky, provides a convenient and responsible way to dispose of old, unwanted tech clutter, offering solutions that are both environmentally friendly and community-focused.
Founded by longtime tech industry professional Chris Blanz, Dispo.tech was created to address the environmental toll of modern technology. After decades working in web design and marketing, Blanz witnessed the explosive growth of tech and the waste it leaves behind. “The U.S. generates nearly 15.5 billion pounds of e-waste annually, and only a small percentage is recycled properly,” he explains. “I realized I’d contributed more than my fair share to this issue and felt it was time to help fix the problem.”
The urgency has only grown as global supply chains face new challenges. China, a leading producer of rare earth materials essential to new technology, has recently restricted exports of gallium and germanium—two metals critical for semiconductors, renewable energy, and defense technologies. “These restrictions highlight the need to reclaim materials from old devices,” Blanz says. “Recycling e-waste isn’t just good for the environment; it’s becoming essential to ensuring the availability of these materials in the future.”
“Every electronic device contains small amounts of these valuable elements,” Blanz adds. “The quantities are so minimal that extracting them only makes sense at scale—typically thousands of pounds. Without proper recycling options, these elements, including gold, silver, and palladium, often end up in landfills. The inconvenience of digging them up again pales in comparison to the real harm caused by toxins like mercury and lead leaching into our soil, water, and food chain.”
Dispo.tech is working to establish a convenient drop-off location to make electronics recycling even easier for the Bowling Green community. In the meantime, they offer free pick-up services within the city, ensuring everyone has access to a responsible way to recycle their e-waste.
Blanz encourages residents to take advantage of this service, especially for older devices that still work. “Some of the computers we receive are still in working condition—perfect for someone who just needs to browse the web or check email. We erase all data, repair what’s needed, and clean the devices up before finding them a new home,” he says.
For businesses with larger collections of e-waste, Dispo.tech offers simplified IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) services, including tailored solutions and free pick-up. For schools, churches, and nonprofits, Dispo.tech is developing initiatives to provide customized recycling solutions as part of community service events.
Blanz views the company’s efforts as part of a larger mission to reduce waste and promote sustainable tech practices. “As Bob the Builder says, ‘Reduce, reuse, recycle.’ You handle the first part, and we’ll take care of the rest,” he says with a smile.
Dispo.tech’s approach to electronics recycling is designed to make it easy and accessible for everyone. Whether it’s a pile of old cables, outdated computers, or devices with life still left in them, the company ensures that every item is either refurbished or responsibly recycled.
